Scrolling Down the Belt: Legionnaire & The Great Battle II

By 1992, beat ’em ups were everywhere — and the genre was starting to get strange.

This episode of Scrolling Down the Belt looks at two very different brawlers from that awkward transition period: TAD Corporation’s arcade game Legionnaire, a post-Final Fight oddity built around fighting nobility and a very unusual dash system, and The Great Battle II: Last Fighter Twin, a Super Famicom crossover where Gundam, Ultraman and Kamen Rider prove that “broken” and “fun” are not always opposites.

Arcades were changing. Consoles were changing. And beat ’em ups were trying to figure out where they belonged.
